Our permanent gallery is currently in development. We are working on the concept, beginning with conditions in Italy, the decision to emigrate and the voyage itself. We will explore issues relating to settlement and life in Canada, including home life and food, work (factory, trades, etc.), social life (leisure, associations and groups, celebrations, sports and games, etc.); and spirituality and faith (religion, religious festivals, etc.). The exhibition will also include themes on community leadership, entrepreneurship, gender roles, and generational differences. The story continues with a consideration of legacy and the many ways Italian-Canadians have changed and contributed to Canadian society.
Tell us what you think! Read the preliminary concept (opens a PDF in a new window), prepared by museum consultants, and call, fax or email us your thoughts.
The temporary gallery will feature contemporary Italian-Canadian culture, and will highlight the work of AMICI’s partner groups/organizations. AMICI is open to submissions. Contact us!
We are developing a virtual exhibition, We are Canada: Italian Immigrant Stories, that will focus on life stories of Italian immigrants. Everyone is invited to submit their own story or that of a family member or friend. We are especially interested in audio or video. We hope to feature one submission regularly on the website. Please first read our guidelines on submissions (opens a PDF in a new window).
