AMICI is a charitable organization working to preserve and communicate the history and contemporary culture of Italian-Canadians, within the larger context of immigration and multiculturalism in Canada.
One of our primary goals is to promote the education and teaching of the history of immigration and its importance in shaping Canadian society. In addition to developing a resource centre for students and a formal school visits program that will reflect and complement the Ontario curriculum, AMICI is also interested in engaging teachers and students in dialogue.
With our first school package in 2006, we hoped to begin this communication. In addition to general information about AMICI, it also included two classroom activities. We are Canada: Immigrant Stories is still available for use in the classrooms.
We continue to work on our school program offerings and are interested in your comments. Also let us know if you are interested in assisting with the work of the Teachers Advisory Group, which provides guidance and advice in the development and delivery of AMICI programs and exhibitions with a student component.
